Presson, Kanagasegar took first place in district tennis tournament

CROSSVILLE — The CCHS Tennis teams traveled to Cookeville May 1-2 to compete in the District 6AAA Individual Tennis Tournament.  

CCHS players Lee Presson and Nithya Kanagasegar won the first-place singles titles for the District. Presson and Kanagasegar will now go on to compete in the Region 3AAA Individual Tennis Tournament which will be held May 13 in Athens.

Presson defeated his White County opponent Wednesday 6-1 and 6-0. He continued play in the semi-finals and finals on Thursday, defeating two Warren Co. opponents with a score of 6-1, 6-1 in the first match and 6-0, 6-2 in the finals.  Kanagasegar defeated her Coffee County opponent on Wednesday with a score of 6-0, 6-0. She returned on Thursday, winning her semi-final match against Warren County 6-0, 6-0. She played a White County opponent in the finals, winning 6-0, 6-1.

These three wins in the Individual District Tournament finished Presson's and Kanagasegar's season in district with an undefeated record.

CCHS also had two other singles players in the tournament, Camie Threet and Daniel Koehl, as well as four doubles teams made up of the following players: Madison McLaughlin with Morgan Houston, Stephanie Kolhepp with Samantha Godsey, Landon Crawford with Henry Gilbert and Tyler Boniol with Jason Furrer.  Joshua Whittenberger was the alternate for singles and Cody Back was the alternate for doubles.
