With two weeks left in the Cumberland County elementary football season, one team remains unbeaten, as the Bulldogs (5-0) defeated the South Rebels (4-1) 14-12 in overtime, while the Brown Bears (1-4) beat Crab Orchard (0-5) for their first win of the season.
Stone improved to 3-2 with a 16-8 win over Pleasant Hill (2-3), while North (3-2) knocked off Martin (2-3) 18-12.
Homestead 14, South 12: South led 6-0 at the break, but Homestead tied the score 6-6 to send the game to overtime. South scored first in overtime, but missed the PAT. Homestead tied the game and completed the two-point conversion for the win.
Stone 16, Pleasant Hill 8: Stone opened the scoring with a safety scored by Kolbie Luckey.The Coyotes (3-2) scored two more times in the first half on a touchdown from Timmy Shultz to Wes Flynn and TD run by Christian Gabbard.
Pleasant Hill opened the fourth quarter with a touchdown and a two point conversion.
It was homecoming at Stone. The eighth-grade students selected King and Queen as Jordan and Jared Houston.
Brown 18, Crab Orchard 14: Chris Barnet scored on a 65-yard touchdown run and also caught a 10-yard reception for a touchdown. Xavier Findley scored on an 30-yard scamper and threw the pass to Barnet.
"The defense played a great game," said Coach Dewayne Davis.
"I was very pleased with our defense of #27 (Xavier Findley). However, Brown was able to make some key plays and long runs and turn them into scoring plays. We had some opportunities to possibly change the game early but were unable to make a big play when we needed to. Once again proud of my team for the effort. Coach Wakefield (Roger) did a super job with the defensive game plan," said Tiger Coach Eddie Raper.
Kyle Holding scored on a TD run, and Aaron Kindred passed to Devin Beaty for the othe touchdown. Kindred had a two-point conversion.
North 18, Martin 12: The Patriots won a close game to celebrate homecoming. No other information was received on this game.
Sept. 19: North at Crab Orchard, Pleasant Hill at Martin, South at Brown and Homestead at Stone.
Sept. 24: Stone at South, Martin at Brown, North at Pleasant Hill and Crab Orchard at Homestead.
Oct. 1: Championship game at SMHS at 6 p.m.
