Submitted

CROSSVILLE — The Crossville Boxing Club hosts their next boxing exhibition event Saturday at the CHA Activity Center on Yvonne Street next to the TAD Center.

The event is dedicated to Boyd King, Crossville native and supporter of the club. King was grandfather several active boxers in the club.  This will be the first Boyd King Memorial.

Also attending the event is Crossville’s up and coming boxer Chris "Hurricane" Howard, who won his first bout on ESPN’s “Friday Night Fights” last month over a more experienced contender. Howard won the fight with a TKO in the third round.  He will be there encouraging the local fighters and to take photos with kids as well.

One of the club members is fresh off her own win of a recent bout, Paige Neely.

More than a dozen matches are expected during the evening featuring amateur boxers from age eight up to adult. The doors will open at 6 p.m. and the first bout is expected at 7 p.m.

This is a sanctioned United States Amateur Boxing event and admission is $10  Concessions will be available and all money raised will help the kids participating in the Crossville Boxing Club. Several local boxers with The Crossville Boxing Club will be participating in the event.

The Crossville Boxing Club has openings for additional young people who might be interested in taking up the sport. The exhibition bouts would be a great way to introduce boxing to anyone who may have an interest. Additional information will be available at the exhibition. The club meets at the CHA Activity Center Monday, Tuesday and Thursday night from 7 to 8:30 p.m. No experience is required and boxing is great exercise and proper protective equipment is used.
