CROSSVILLE — Stone Memorial High School senior pitcher Rachel Mathews inked a scholarship with Tennessee Wesleyan College in Athens, TN.

TWC Coach Toby Brooks said she "is a great kid" and has "a lot of potential. We are excited to get her."

She has been the starting pitcher for the Lady Panthers since she was a freshman and earned All-District honors her sophomore and junior seasons.

Mathews helped the Lady Panthers to a second place finish in the district last season. She was 24-2 to begin the season, until a rib injury sidelined her for a few weeks.

Her career ERA is 1.24 with 184 strikeouts in 2013, raising her career KO record to 434.

Mathews has played competitive travel softball for the Crossville Cyclones and her current team the Tennessee Blast.

She is the daughter of Todd and Cassie Mathews, and has an older sister, Lauren, who also played softball at SMHS.
