Cumberland County stroke play championship tees off June 29-30

CROSSVILLE — On June 29-30,  Heatherhurst Golf Club and the city of Crossville will host the Cumberland County stroke play championship on The Brae Course at Heatherhurst Golf Club.

The purpose of the tournament is to create an event where all  Cumberland County golfers can compete in a stroke (medal) play event. Any given weekend from April to October you can probably find a scramble tournament in Cumberland County to play in, but there are no individual stroke play events open to all county residents.

This tournament will hopefully bring golfers together from all courses in the county to meet and compete in a first class event.

"We will have a scratch championship flight for men and women that you will have to declare to play in. We will also have handicap divisions for men and women and a senior men’s division for players 70 and older from the gold tees," said Jeff Houston, Heatherhurst golf professional.

If enough players sign up, there will be age divisions among the handicap brackets.

To be eligible to participate in the handicap division you have to be a member of the U.S.G.A. ghin system and have posted five scores in 2013. This tournament will be played strictly by the U.S.G.A. rules of golf. The entry fee will get you range balls, two tournament rounds and lunch both days. Crossville Mayor J.H. Graham lll will present the winner of the scratch divisions with a trophy that will be kept on display at Heatherhurst Pro Shop from year to year.

You have to be a resident of Cumberland County to be eligible to enter the tournament.  If you need help establishing your handicap or have any other questions please call Jeff Houston or Jeremy Jones at Heatherhurst Golf Club at 484-3799.
