CCHS qualifies several for sectional track meet

CROSSVILLE — Several members of the Cumberland County High School track team have qualified for the sectional next week at Rhea County HIgh School in Evensville.

Lady Jets Kassidy Sommer, Taonna Miller and both the 4x400 and 4x800 relay teams qualified for the sectional, while Zakk King and the 4x800 relay team qualifed for the Jets.

"This is the most sectional final events we have ever qualified with a chance to go to the state," said Coach Ted McCaslin.

Kassidy Sommer finished second in the 3200 meters in 12:19.64, second in the 1600-meter run in 5:29.35

Taonna Miller finished third in the 100-meter dash (13.19) and third in the 400-meter dash in 1:02.39

The Lady Jets 4x400 relay team finished third in 10:44.28 and the 4x400 relay team waas second in 4:20.09.

Sharon Ulloa was 10th in the 300-meter hurdles in 57.09.

Jennifer Hedgecoth was fourth in the 800-meter run in 2:11.40.

Zakk King finished third in the boys pole vault at 8'06" to qualify.

Kobe Cox finished fifth in the discuss at 116'00", while Ben Church was 14th (92'03").

Nathan Phillips was ninth (11:18.07) in the 3200-meter run.

The Jet 4x800 relay team finished fourth in 4:14.00 to qualify for the sectional.

Bradley Mathis was fifth in the 1600-meter run in 4:49.42.

The Jets 4x400 relay team was sixth in 3:46.75.

Field events start at 3 p.m., the pole vault at 1 p.m., the 3200 at 3:30 p.m. and the rest of the running events after the field events are concluded. All of these times are CDT.

    Cody Hedgecoth, the 17-year-old grandson of Peggy and Bobby Houston and son of Missy and William Hedgecoth, won first place in varsity sporting clays at the Tennessee State Championship.  He won by shooting 97 out of 100 clay targets.

    Greg Wyatt fired a three-under-par 69 to lead his team to a 12-under-par 60 to take a three-stroke lead into the final round of the City of Crossville Team Championship Tuesday morning at Lake Tansi.

    CCHS baseball is pleased to announce that the annual alumni game will be Sept. 20 at 9 a.m. at Jet Park.  This has become an annual tradition for the program to welcome back its alumni for a weekend of festivities and allow them the opportunity to lace up the spikes another time to represent the Jets.
