The Cumberland County High School Lady Jet softball team finished the District 6AAA regular season with a 3-5 mark, after dropping a 6-3 decision to the Cookeville Lady Cavaliers Thursday night at Jet Park.
Cookeville scored two unearned in the top of the first inning on a couple of errors, a RBI double by Meghan Winningham, a walk and a groundout.
CCHS threatened in the bottom of the first, when Erin Dille and Bri Qualls both reached on errors, but both were stranded.
The Lady Jets (11-13) took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the second on a double by Tori Kerley, a sacrifice, singles by Amber Johnson, Calli Borgialli and Kenzie Woods and a baseloaded walk to Emily Terpening.
Winningham's two-out, two-run homer in the top of the third, after a single by Jenna Roberts, gave the Lady Cavs a 4-3 advantage off Lady Jet starter Whitney Hankins.
Cookeville added two insurance runs in the top of the fifth a single by Roberts, a wild pitch, a RBI double by Morgan Harris and an RBI single by Sydney Price for a 6-3 lead.
Bailey Woods doubled in the bottom of the third, but Lady Cav catcher Morgan Harris recorded all three of the outs to strand Bailey Woods at third.
Qualls reached on an error in the bottom of the fifth, but tagged out a second on Bailey Woods grounder to short and then stole second. Tori Kerley singled was thrown out trying to take second on the throw to the infield.
The Lady Jet defense converted a double plays in the second and seventh inning.
Hankins was the losing pitcher, allowing six runs on 11 hits with one strikeout and three walks.
Kerley had two hits, whlie Kenzie Woods, Bailey Woods, Johnson and Borgialli each had one hit.
Schedule: CCHS will host Bledsoe County Tuesday night for senior night and will travel to Livingston May 2 for their regular season finale.
