CCHS tennis teams lose twice to Coffee County

CROSSVILLE — The CCHS tennis teams hosted district opponent Coffee County on Monday, April 22 for the last regular season time.  The Jets lost 6-3 and the Lady Jets lost 7-2.    

Lee Presson won the number one singles 8-4, Daniel Koehl won the number two singles 8-1, and the two players teamed to win the number one doubles 8-6 for the only Jet victories.  

Landon Crawford played the number three singles losing in a close match 8-4. Henry Gilbert played the number four spot and Tyler Boniol played the number five spot with both losing 8-1. Joshua Whittenberger rounded out singles play at the number six position losing 8-0.  

Crawford/Gilbert teamed to play the number two doubles losing in a tie breaker 9-8. Whittenberger teamed with Jason Furrer to play the number three doubles losing 8-1.

Nithya Kanagasegar won her number one singles match 8-0 and teamed with Camie Threet in the number one doubles winning that match 8-1.  

Camie Threet played the number two singles losing 8-3. Stephanie Kolhepp played the number two singles and Samantha Godsey played the number three singles with both girls losing 8-0. Madison McLaughlin played the number five singles and Morgan Houston played the number six singles with the girls losing 8-2 and 8-1 respectively. Stephanie Kolhepp and Samantha Godsey teamed for the number two doubles losing 8-0.  Madison McLaughlin and Morgan Houston teamed to play the number three doubles losing in a very close match 8-6.

"Both teams have young players and are showing great improvement," said Coach Terry Jacobs.

The teams travel to Coffee County on Tuesday, April 30, for their final regular season match.  

The Individual District 6AAA Tournament will begin on Wednesday, May 1. The teams will play in the first two rounds of the tournament on Wednesday for a spot in the semi-finals and finals to be played on Thursday, May 2.  

Lee Presson and Nithya Kanagasegar were both seeded in the number one spot for the tournament. Presson, Kanagasegar and Daniel Koehl have undefeated records with one more match to play in the regular season at Coffee County.

    The Cookeville Cavaliers scored seven runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to claim a 7-0 District 6AAA victory over the CCHS Jets Monday night in Cookeville.

    The SMHS Lady Panthers had another stellar day while the Panthers hammered out a solid day in Knoxville in the Tennessee Relays over the weekend.. The Lady Panthers finished ninth out of the 57 scheduled teams to compete, while the boys took 32nd out of the 57.
