14th annual Kids’ Fishing Tournament scheduled June 7 at Meadow Park Lake

CROSSVILLE — June 7 marks the 14th year the city of Crossville and Meadow Park Lake  again hosts the yearly Kid's Fishing Tournament.

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, a major tournament sponsor, will stock catfish prior to the event.

Clark Annis and his crew from Veolia will be cooking up a scrumptious lunch, with Flowers Bakery providing some delicious desserts made in Crossville.

Other sponsors include Comfort Keepers, Hustler Bait and Ron Poller, Outdoor Connection, Plateau Longbeards Chapter of NWTF, Plateau Bowling Lanes and Tommy's Lot Maintenance.

Children need to bring fishing gear, bait and a container for their catch, should they choose to keep them. It is also recommended that attendants bring such things as insect repellant, sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, and a lawn chair or blanket for a more enjoyable time.

This event is for children ages 5-15, who must be accompanied by an adult. Registration begins promptly at 6:30 a.m.

The youngest age group (5-8) will fish from 7:15-8:15 a.m., while the older age group (9-15) begins at 8:15 a.m. Final weigh-in is at 10 a.m.

There will be a casting contest for all participants, with a trophy going to the overall winner in each age group.

Trophies are awarded to total weight winners in each division — big fish and first, second and third place. There will be three divisions — 5-8 years, 9-12 years and 13-15  years.

For additional information, please contact Marlene Potter at 788-2034. Participants must bring a parent or guardian (no exceptions) and fishing pole, tackle, bait, etc. Some bait will be provided.
