CCHS runners qualify for state meet

CROSSVILLE — Several members of the Cumberland County High School track team have qualified for the state meet next week in Murfreesboro at Middle Tennessee State University.

Kassidy Sommer qualified fourth in the 3,200-meters for state with a time of 12:07.46 at the Class AAA Section 2 meet Wednesday at Rhea County High School. She will run in the 3,200 finals May 22 at 5:20 p.m.

Sommer finished sixth in the 1,600-meter run in 5:39.06.

Taonna Miller qualified second in the 400 for the state meet with a time of 1:00.53 during the Section 2 meet. She will run in the preliminaries May 22 at 5 p.m.

Jennifer Hedgecoth, Anna Holt Shaw, Brianna Taylor, and Marissa Vincent qualified fourth in the 4x800 for the state meet with a time of 10:47.01. They will run in the finals May 23 at 6 p.m.

Hedgecoth was eighth in the 800-meter run.

The Jets 4x800 relay team finished seventh at Rhea County in 9:27.33, while the Lady Jets 4x400 relay team was fifth in 4:16.66.

The Lady Jets finished 11th overall with 25 points, while the Jets were 19th with two points.

    The CCHS Jet baseball went 1-2 over spring break to improve to 17-10 on the season, after losing to Greeneville 3-2 in eight innings last Thursday, beating Cocke County 7-1 last Friday and losing 10-4 to Knox Carter last Saturday.
