Jets shut out 7-0 by Cookeville Monday

CROSSVILLE — The Cookeville Cavaliers scored seven runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to claim a 7-0 District 6AAA victory over the CCHS Jets Monday night in Cookeville.

Jet starter Morgan Richards held the Cavaliers scoreless through the first three innings, allowing a first-inning walk and a single in the third, before the hosts scored two runs in the fourth, two in the fifth and three in the sixth.

Cookeville starter James Paisley  gave up a first-inning single to Ethan Cunningham, a second inning single to Nathaniel Wyatt and a walk to David Elliott, and fourth-inning walk to Grant Parrett.

Back-to-back-to-back singles by Jacob Edgington, Jackson Paisley and Ben Shelton loaded the bases, but Blaine Smith bounced back to Richards who threw to catcher David Elliott to force Edgington at the plate and then threw to first to get Smith to complete the double play.

Two more singles by Charlie Harris and Ryan Julian plated the first two runs of the game.

Reed Shaw walked to open the top of the fifth and was lifted for pinch runner Jacob Hayes. Justin Shipe singled. Ryan Burgess singled to right, but Julian threw home to nail a sliding Hayes at the plate to end the inning.

Cookeville scored two more runs in the bottom of the fifth on singles by James Paisely, Jackson Paisley and Harris, two errors and a fielder's choice for a 4-0 lead.

James Paisley allowed a single by Parrett in the sixth and retired the Jets in order in the seventh to end the game, after the Cavaliers plated three runs in the bottom of the sixth on three walks, a single by Jackson Paisley and a double by Shelton.

Richards allowed seven runs on 11 hits with two strikeouts and six walks, while Josh Hayes struck out the two hitters he faced.

The Jets had five hits off James Paisley, including two by Cunningham and one each by Parrett, Wyatt and Shipe.

Schedule: The Cookeville at CCHS game was postponed Tuesday and will be played tonight. There will be a junior varsity game at 5:30 p.m., with the varsity game to follow.
