Lady Panther golf team loses openers

CROSSVILLE — The Stone Memorial Lady Panther golf team dropped their first two golf matches of the 2012 season.

The first match was a loss to Kingston by one. 104-105.

Paige Cox withdrew with an injury. Makayla Kington shot a 49 and Tori Harris shot a 56. Sadie Hoover also played in the match, but was not added to the total.

"Even though the heat was intense, the girls played tough. All three girls played in their first high school match ever," said Coach Nathan Brown.

The second match was a loss to Rockwood at Bear Trace, losing 113-115.

Kington again shot the low score with Harris being number two.

"Sadie Hoover is continuing to improve. Makayla has stepped up and been a real leader for the team. I look for her to continue her strong start. Tori and Sadie have helped solidify our roster and will be big contributors to the team's success for the remainder of the season," added Brown.

Paige Cox should be back to full health and competing in matches by the second week of August.

  • The truth about driver distance

Most golfers would like to hit the ball further off the tee with the driver.  Distance may not be as important as accuracy off the tee, but it is very valuable. Longer, straighter drives make the game easier.
