SMHS tennis teams sweep district foes Rockwood and Kingston

CROSSVILLE — The Stone Memorial tennis teams swept a pair of district matches with Rockwood last Friday and Kingston Monday at Roane State Community College in Harriman.

The SMHS Lady Panthers won their district match on SMHS courts Friday, April 12, against Rockwood by a score of 6-3. 

Ali Harris defeated Alex Patterson 8-1 in No. 1 singles. Peyton Franklin posted an 8-1 victory over Shelley Edwards at No. 2 singles. Tori Harris easily won her No. 3 singles match 8-0 against Kristen Jolley. Elise Myslinski defeated her No. 4 singles opponent Zoe Hill 8-2.  Savannah Brown won 8-6 over Allison Frogg in a well-played No. 5 singles match.  Abbie Wightman narrowly lost 8-9 in a 5-7 tie-breaker to  Kimberlyn Hendrix.

The Lady Panthers pair of Franklin and Myslinski easily defeated Patterson and Hill 8-1 at No. 1 doubles. The duo of Brown and Wightman went on to post an 1-8 loss in No. 2 doubles against Edwards and Frogg, and the doubles pair of Alexandra Anthony and Yen Riddle lost at No. 3 to Hendrix and Grizzard by a match score of 2-8. 

The Panther boys tennis team posted a 4-3 win over district opponent Rockwood. Number 1 seed Mark Brown and No. 2 seed Tyler Yoder were unavailable to play in this match, so the remaining three players moved up two positions and elevated their play to win the match.

Parker Hill won his No. 2 singles match in an dramatic fashion over Arin Deardorff 9-8 with a 7-4 tie-breaker game. Stephen Tung notched another district win at No. 3 singles by defeating Dalton Kirkland 8-4.

Hill and Campbell combined their efforts to defeat Hamby and Deardorff 8-5 to wrap up the No. 1 doubles win. The Panther boys team forfeited No. 4 and No. 5 singles and No. 2 doubles for lack of players, but still managed an amazing match win.

The Lady Panthers defeated the Lady Blue Devils 9-0. Ali Harris defeated Jill Goldston 8-1 in No. 1 singles. Peyton Franklin posted an 8-1 victory over Kristen Arden at No. 2 singles.  Tori Harris again easily won her No. 3 singles match 8-0 against Leketta Asbury. Elise Myslinski defeated her No. 4 singles opponent Amber Frost 8-0.  Savannah Brown won 8-5 over Hayle Moore in the No. 5 singles match.  Abbie Wightman won by forfeit.

The Lady Panthers pair of Harris and Harris easily defeated Goldston and Arden 8-0 at No. 1 doubles. Franklin and Myslinski easily defeated Fost and Moore 8-2 at No. 2 doubles. Alexandra Anthony and Yen Riddle won by forfeit.

The SMHS Panthers won their match 7-2 at Roane State over the Harriman Blue Devils. Mark Brown easily defeated Deran Franklin 8-0 at No. 1 singles.  Tyler Yoder continued the domination at No. 2 singles with an 8-0 win, as well. Trent Campbell also turned in a perfect match score of 8-0 at No. 3 singles over Matt Snow. Parker Hill won convincingly over Chane Goldston 8-1 at No. 4 singles, and Stephen Tung battled to a 9-8 win in a 7-5 tie-breaker game.

Mark Brown and Tyler Yoder teamed up for an 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles over Henry Thorne and Daryl Farmer. Trent Campbell and Parker Hill turned in a perfect match score of 8-0 at No. 2 doubles over Matt Snow and Bubba Pressley.  Number 6 singles and number 3 doubles were forfeited due to only 5 players for the Panthers.

The Panthers and Lady Panthers are both now 4-1 in district play and 4-2 overall. The SMHS tennis team traveled to Loudon County Tuesday to take on the Redskins in district action.
