Stone Memorial takes second in Plateau Invitational

The Stone Memorial Lady Panthers finished second in the Plateau Classic, losing 5-0 to Cookeville in the championship game Saturday night at Crossville Centennial Park, while the Lady Jets finished 2-3 in the annual tournament.

On Friday night, the Lady Panthers defeated Knox Central 6-3 and shut out Sequarchie 5-0 in pool games. Kaitlyn Reagan and Chasity Hancock slammed homers for the Lady Panthers during pool play Friday evening.

The Lady Cavaliers split Friday's pool play games, beating Knox Carter 4-0 and losing to Knox Central 4-0.

The Lady Jets split their two games on Friday, losing to Rhea County 3-0 and beating Gordonsville 5-2.

In double-elemination play Saturday, the Lady Panthers defeated Knox Carter 4-3, LaVergne 7-4 and Gordonsville 12-1, before losing twice to Cookeville 3-2 and 5-0 to finish second in the tournament.

On Saturday, Cookeville defeated CCHS 3-0 and Knox Central 6-3, before beating SMHS twice for the championship.

After losing to Cookeville Saturday, the Lady Jets beat White County 2-1 and lost to Gordonsville 2-0

Leading hitters in the tournament for the Lady Jets were Bailey Woods (three hits), Brianna Qualls (four hits with one run scored), Destiny Lewis (one hit with one run scored), Tori Kerley (two hits, two runs scored, one RBI), Whitney Hankins (one hit, one run scored, one RBI), Kenzie Woods (two hits, two RBIs, one run scored), Callie Borgialli (one hit), Erin Dille (two hits, one RBI), Emily Terpening (one hit, one RBI), Amber Johnson (three hits, one run scored, one RBI) and Katie VanHorn (one hit). Carrie Wood, Jordyn Wilson and Lydia Harris also played.

Hankins posted a 1-2 record, allowing seven runs on 18 hits with six walks and five strikeouts, while Qualls was 1-1, yielding 10 hits with four runs and three strikeouts.

Schedule: The Lady Jets travel to Cookeville Tuesday and host Rockwood Thursday, before playing in the Cookeville Tournament over the weekend.

After traveling to Loudon Monday, SMHS  travels to Kingston Thursday and hosts Harriman Friday.

    The CCHS Jet baseball went 1-2 over spring break to improve to 17-10 on the season, after losing to Greeneville 3-2 in eight innings last Thursday, beating Cocke County 7-1 last Friday and losing 10-4 to Knox Carter last Saturday.
