Sommer leads the pack in cross country

CROSSVILLE — Runners from both Cumberland County High School and Stone Memorial High School competed in the first meet of the Chattanooga Cross Country League season at Camp Jordan in East Ridge Tuesday afternoon.

Lady Jet Kassidy Sommer blistered the course in 21:15.95 to win the girls varsity division and lead the Lady Jets to a fifth-place finish behind Home School of Chattanooga, Heritage High School of Catoosa, GA; GPS and Stone Memorial, according to tn.milesplit.com.

Katie Coudriet led SMHS in a time of 22:18.01, followed by Caroline Pribanich (22:30.88), Emily Swafford (23:42.42), Kerigan Smith (24:04.91); Rachel Raulerson (26:51.41) and Kayli Priestwood (31:00.35).

Other Lady Jets scores were Caroline Cravens (22:47.01), Selinda Bryant (25:09.97), Chelsey Roysdon (25:30.08), Lindsey Roysdon (25:59.09), Taylor Hammons (27:04.07) and Madeline Toy (30:56.59).

Ben Tabor's seventh-place finish time of 18:22.61 helped the Jets finish sixth behind Baylor School, Northwest Whitfield, Ooltewah, Soddy-Daisy and Coahula Creek, while SMHS finished nineth.

Other Jet scores were Bradley Mathis (18:43.52), Nathan Phillips (19:40.98), Kevin Buffkin (20:50.52), Brady Adams (21:25.22) and Ryan Tabor (22:36.86).

Both Ben Tabor's and Phillips' times were personal records, according to Coach Rachel Shoemaker.

George Sampley led the Panthers in 20:16.54, followed by Dawson Hassler (20:47.75), John Mathis (20:49.92), Jordan Schroeder (21:07.71), Blu Shillings (21:23.32), Anthony Spencer (21:29.24) and Sam Hagan (22:46.14).

SMHS finished 14th in the junior varsity co-ed race.

Leading SMHS were Justin Hall (27:02.07), Sergio Romo (33:41.81), Skylar Hawn (35:51.14), Chandler Reed (37:04.89) and Grant Brown (37:23.04).

Running for CCHS were Tyler Boniol (26:16.29) and Allison Sherer (39:46.16).

Bonoil's time was also a personal best.

Next action for the Jets and Lady Jets will be Sept. 14 in the Cherokee Classic in Knoxville. No schedule information is available for the SMHS cross country team.
