Panthers take region crown

Face Blackman at home Monday for substate action

CROSSVILLE — Five Stone Memorial basketball players scored in double figures en route to a 72-54 win over the Walker Valley Mustangs Thursday night to claim the Region 3AAA championship and a berth in the substate round of the Class AAA Tournament Monday night.

SMHS (27-6) will host Blackman (24-6) Monday at 7 p.m., with the winner advancing to the state tournament March 12-15 at MTSU's Murphy Center. Blackman lost 59-52 to Siegel (30-1), who lost to Blackman earlier in the season.

Tyler Yoder led the Panthers with 18 points, followed by Gage Spence (10), Brandon Thomas (14), Mitch Ball (13) and Justin Simmons (12).

The Cumberland County High School Lady Jets face the Blackman (30-1) girls team Saturday at 7 p.m. at Blackman High School in Murfreesboro.
