CCHS golfers, Tori Harris played in region tourney

CROSSVILLE — The CCHS Jet golf team, Lady Jet golfer Megan Burgess and Lady Panther Tori Harris competed in the Region 3AAA Golf Tournament Sept. 26 at Riverwatch.

The Jets finished fifth with a 349 behind Cookeville (317), East Hamilton (331), Walker Valley (334) and Warren County (337), and ahead of Ooltewah (369).

CCHS was led by Logan Stewart who finished 10th with an 81. Rounding out the scores were Jordan Graham (88), D.J. Shelton (83), Andrew Brown (97) and Chandler Shelton (100).

Burgess finished with a 113.

Cookeville advanced to the state tournament, as well as individuals Danny Gleeson (Ooltewah), Logan Price (East Hamilton), Cameron Bruce (White County) and Kyle Limburg (Walker Valley).

Harris competed well, according to SMHS Coach Nathan Brown. She shot a 96, which put her six strokes away from advancing to the state tourney and representing SMHS there.

"Tori played some great golf yesterday (Sept. 26) on a very tough course. She also played with a four-time state qualifier and didn't blink an eye. Tori displayed immense poise in a few difficult situations yesterday. I am proud to be her coach and we should all be proud to call her a Panther. Tori exhibited character and composure yesterday that some tour professionals lack. I could not be more proud of a young lady, than I am of Tori. It is an honor to be her coach," said SMHS Coach Nathan Brown.

Warren County won the girls won the region tournament to earn a berth in the state tourney, along with individuals Anna Cunningham (Cookeville), Shelby Johnson (White County), Samantha Griffith (Ooltewah) and Heidi Barringer (Cleveland).

Harris and Stone McCoy were selected to the All-District Team.

•Brown will be starting a junior golf program for the feeder schools to SMHS. For more information, contact him at SMHS.
