Homestead still unbeaten in elementary gridiron action

CROSSVILLE — When the Cumberland County elementary football league concludes its regular season tonight, Homestead is the only team with an unbeaten record, after last Thursday's action where four shutouts were recorded.

The Bulldogs (6-0) blanked Stone (3-3) 36-0, Martin (3-3) shut out Pleasant Hill (2-4) 45-0, South (5-1) beat Brown (1-5) 54-0 and North (3-3) defeated Crab Orchard (0-6) 22-0.

Tonight's games are Stone at South, Martin at Brown, North at Pleasant Hill and Crab Orchard at Homestead. All games kick off at 4:30 p.m.

The county championship game is Oct. 1 at 6 p.m. at SMHS.

North 22, Crab Orchard 0: "Again a super effort by my team. North was able to make a couple of plays to  score. We moved the ball well at times but just could not sustain a drive. Although, there are not many of us my team has given all they have every game. Another good defensive plan by Coach Roger Wakefield. A late score by North makes the game look more out of hand than it really was," said Crab Orchard coach Eddie Raper.

No information was received from the other games.
