Putt For The Cure lets the whole family join fight against breast cancer

Miniature golf tournament slated May 11 at Pirates Plateau


CROSSVILLE — The entire family can join the fight against breast cancer May 11 at the first Putt for the Cure miniature golf tournament, presented by Dr. Calley Jo Elsea, DMD, of Cloudland Dental.

This family event will be held at Pirates Plateau Golf Adventure on Peavine Rd., with shotgun starts scheduled for 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. After your round, there will be fun activities to take part in as well.

Proceeds from the event will support the Upper Cumberland affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, which offers grants for screening, education and survivorship efforts in the Upper Cumberland, including the free mammogram days at Cumberland Medical Center. More than $644,753 in grants to area hospitals, nonprofit organizations and the Tennessee Breast and Cervical Network have been awarded since the affiliate's inception in 2008. Komen also supports ground-breaking research in breast cancer treatment in its quest for find a cure.

"Breast cancer doesn't just affect the adults of a family," said Heather Mullinix, tournament chairperson. "Every member of a family touched by breast cancer is affected. This event offers a way for everyone to take part in finding a cure for our mothers, grandmothers, aunts, sisters, and even our fathers and grandfathers, at a fun, family friendly event."

The tournament will have prizes in four age divisions: 7 and under, ages 8 to 12, ages 13 to 18 and adults. Top players under 7 will win a Razor kick scooter and helmet. Ages 8 to 12 can win a motorized Razor scooter and helmet. Teens can win a MasterCard gift card, iTunes card and more. Second place prize in all divisions is a Super Soaker combo pack that's sure to offer hours of fun during the hot summer months. Third prizes are pool prize packs. Adults, you can win a family movie package to Rocky Top 10 Theater for four, tickets to the Cumberland County Playhouse, and more.
