Jet JV wrestlers earn seven medals Jan. 26

Staff writer

CROSSVILLE — Cumberland County High School Wrestling head coach Mac McNeely traveled to Heritage High School on Saturday, Jan. 26 with 11 wrestlers to participate in the Individual Junior Varsity Regional tournament.

“The team is not only young, but also inexperienced, and as my first season back at CCHS and as head coach, I had hoped for a season of survivors,” says Coach Mac, “but what I witnessed this weekend is determination and heart!”

Despite the single loss matches of freshmen Shawn Ansell and Dalton Davis, the Jets  still had a solid and promising showing with seven of eleven medalists. Freshman David Scavo took first, freshman K.C. Trosclair was a finalist in second, sophomore Shawnee Foster, junior Zeth Bolin and junior Timmy Billings placed in third, and freshman Alec Moore and sophomore Jeff Pugh (with injury) placed fourth.

“I am very proud of my team’s accomplishment. This is a building year and I believe the foundation has been set. We can continue to build a program that I foresee to be successful with the leadership and heart I have seen this season” says Coach Mac.

The Jets will travel this Tuesday, Feb. 5, to McMinn County for the junior varsity district tournament.
