Plateau Invitational changes schedule for pool play

CROSSVILLE — The Cumberland County Lady Jet softball team will be hosting nine other schools in the annual Plateau Invitational April 12-13 at Crossville Centennial Park; however, the schedule for the pool games  for the second time this week, as Wartburg and Cannon County have are no longer playing in the tournament.

Tournament games begin at 9 a.m. Saturday.

There are two pools. Pool one has CCHS, DeKalb County, Gordonsville Rhea County and White County, while pool two has Cookeville, Stone, Knox Central, Lavergne and Carter.

Here is the schedule for April 12:

Pool 1

Turner 1

5:30 p.m.: CCHS vs. Rhea County

6:45 p.m.: CCHS vs. Gordonsville

8 p.m.: White County vs. Rhea County

Turner 2

5:30 p.m.: DeKalb County vs. Gordonsville

6:45 p.m.: Dekalb County vs. White County

Pool 2

Turner 6

5:30 p.m.: Cookeville vs. Carter

6:45 p.m.: Cookeville vs. Knox Central

Turner 3

5:30 p.m.:  Stone vs. Knox Central

6:45 p.m.: Lavergne vs. Carter

8 p.m.: Stone vs. Lavergne

The games will follow TSSAA rules, with the following exception:

The time limit for pool games is drop dead after 60 minutes. For tournament games, the time limit is 60 minutes and finish the inning.

The championship is five innings with no time limit.

The umpires may check bats and helmits prior to each game.

The run rule is 15 after three innings, 12 after four innings and eight after five innings.

The tournament director has the right to alter the tournament format, field assignments and/or game times in the event of inclement weather.

Pool play standings will be determined by win/loss record, fewest runs allowed, most runs scored and draw-flip coin.

    The Cookeville Cavaliers scored seven runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to claim a 7-0 District 6AAA victory over the CCHS Jets Monday night in Cookeville.

    The SMHS Lady Panthers had another stellar day while the Panthers hammered out a solid day in Knoxville in the Tennessee Relays over the weekend.. The Lady Panthers finished ninth out of the 57 scheduled teams to compete, while the boys took 32nd out of the 57.

  • SMHS tennis team loses twice to Rhea County

    The Stone Memorial tennis teams lost their District 6AAA matches to Rhea County Monday afternoon. The boys lost 9-0, while the girls were beaten 7-2.

  • Jets finish 1-2 last week to improve to 14-8

    The Cumberland County High School Jet baseball team completed last week with a 1-2 record to go to 14-8 on the season, after a 4-3 loss at Dekalb County last Thursday, an 11-7 setback to Walker Valley and an 8-3 win at Livingston Saturday.
