The Cumberland County High School track team will be competing in the Mid-South Meet at McCallie School Saturday, instead of running in the Oak Ridge Relays.
"I am taking our kids to the best meets throughout the state. Why? It is my belief that you don't get better running in meets where your best times (like the 400, 800, 1600) are so much better than the other teams," said Coach Ted McCaslin.
Kassidy Sommer has run 11:59 in the 3200, Taonna Miller has run 13.37 in the 100, and the the Lady Jets 4x800 team has run 10:52 and the 4x400 team has run 4:25.
Jennifer Hedgecoth has a time of 2:32 in the 800 and Marissa Vincent has run 1:03.73 in the 400. Brad Mathis ran 2:10 in the 800, 4:47 in the 1600 and 50.61 in the 400.
Freshman Seth Randall is in the top eight of the region in the 300 Intermediate Hurdles.
According to a story via chattanoogan.com on the tn.milesplit.com website, McCallie has hosted the Mid-South Meet for over 35 years and again this year, the meet will feature some of the top teams and athletes in Tennessee and the tri-state region.
A number of defending state champions and top ranked track and field athletes will compete, including Julian Nunally of McCallie in the discus (161’2”). The boys mile will include A-AA State Champion Sam Klockenkamper (4:17) from MLK in Nashville and DII State Champion Simon Holden (4:17) of Baylor along with three all-state athletes from McCallie.
