Lady Jets split district matches

CROSSVILLE — The Cumberland County High School Lady Jet softball team split a pair of District 6AAA games earlier this week, beating Coffee County 8-3 Tuesday and losing to Warren County 5-0 Monday.

CCHS 8, Coffee County 3: The Lady Jets trailed 2-0 after three innings, but used a seven-run fourth inning to take the lead at 7-2. Bailey Woods had a basesloaded double to highlight the inning.

Coffee County added their other run in the top of the sixth to slice the lead to 7-3, but CCHS added an insurance run in the bottom of the inning to make the final score 8-3 for their first win over the Lady Raiders in several years.

Whitney Hankins allowed three runs on seven hits with two walks and four strikeouts to claim the victory, while Qualls gave up a walk in one inning of work.

Leading hitters for the Lady Jets were Bailey Woods (one hit with three RBIs), Qualls (one hit), Tori Kerley (one hit), Hankins (one hit with one RBI), Kenzie Woods (one hit with one RBI), Amber Johnson (two hits), Callie Borgialli (two hits with one RBI) and Erin Dille (two hits).

Warren County 5, CCHS 0: The game was scoreless through three innings, but the Lady Pioneers scored all of their runs in the fourth inning to claim the victory.

Destiny Lewis cracked two hits for the Lady Jets, while Brienna Qualls  and Amber Johnson poked one hit each.

Whitney Hankins allowed five runs on four hits with one walk and three strikeouts in four innings of work, while Qualls allowed one walk with one strikeout in three innings of shutout softball.

Schedule: The Lady Jets traveled to Clarkrange Thursday, before hosting the Plateau Classic this weekend.
