"I have learned a lot from these guys. They played through a ton of injuries," said Cumberland County Jet soccer coach Cub Whitson Sunday evening at the team's annual banquet held in the CCHS wrestling complex. "Thank you for playing this year."
Whitson and assistant coach Dre Foster passed out "gag" awards to the players and managers, and then the team members, family and friends enjoyed a video presentation spotlighting the 2013 season.
After the meal, the Jets' five seniors, Drew Talford, Bobby Rogers, Jarrod Lee, Todd Wiser and Brandon Brown were each presented a book that matched their personality.
First-year letters were awarded to Todd Wiser, Bobby Rogers, Zeth Bolin, Jeremy Miller, Caleb Charles, Alex Pribanich, Gene Moss, Aidan Morrison, Jaret Johnson, Dalton Teeple, K.C. Trosclair and Xane Hazelwood.
Multilple letter winners were Jarrod Lee (four years), Drew Talford (four years), Brandon Brown (three years), Francisco Chavez (three years), Shawn Foster (two years), Hayden Smith (two years), Dustin Davis (two years), Jordan Garvan (two years) and Kevin Buffkin (two years).
Jet Award winners were Dalton Teeple (freshman), Jordan Garvin (sophomore) and Francisco Chavez (junior).
Xane Hazelwood was Rookie of the Year. He was one of 17 first-year players on the teams.
"He knew how to get down and get dirty," said Whitson.
Kevin Buffkin was Most Improved. He started "being a strong 12th man" and "to earn to get a starting spot," according to Whitson.
Zeth Bolin and Todd Wiser received Coaches Awards.
Jarrod Lee was the Offensive MVP for scoring seven goals with four assists, while Drew Talford was the Defensive MVP. He was captain of the defense for three years.
Shawn Foster was All-Around MVP, scoring 14 goals with three assists, while the Bo Patton Award went to Brandon Brown.
CCHS had three All-District 6AAA picks — Shawn Foster, Jarrod Lee and Brandon Brown. Shawn Foster was All-Region.
