Junior golf tourneys planned in Crossville

Submitted

CROSSVILLE — Coach Randy Herring will be conducting a series of junior golf tournaments in Crossville this summer.

"My goal is promote golf and its enhancing values with an emphasis on teaching juniors the game. The tour is dedicated to providing local junior golfers the opportunity to compete in junior tournaments on the top courses in Cumberland County. This is a great opportunity for junior golfers to gain tournament experience," stated Herring.

Age groups for boys and girls this year will be 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14. Age group is determined by age on Aug. 1, 2013. To be eligible to compete in GCJT events, it is highly recommended you attend the Cumberland County Junior Golf Academy or you can pay a $50 membership fee.

The Jr. Golf Academy will be June 3-5 at Bear Trace from 8-10 a.m. each day. It is to enhance 6-15 year olds (boys and girls) and to teach them the basic fundamentals — grip, stance, swing, etiquette and integrity. It encourages them to play and practice, develop social skills and emotional control, to have fun and make the game enjoyable, and prepare junior golfers for the upcoming countywide Junior Golf Tour.

Information about the Academy can be obtained by calling Bear Trace at 707-1640.  The forms will be available at Bear Trace Cumberland Mountain, Lake Tansi, Deer Creek and select locations across the city of Crossville.

Information about the GCJT events can be obtained by contacting Randy Herring at 248-2248.

Tournament dates are June 11 at Lake Tansi; June 18 at Heatherhurst; July 10 at Bear Trace; and July 16 at Lake Tansi.

To register for a GCJT event, call the Tansi Pro Shop at 788-3301 or Randy Herring at (931) 248-2248.
