Wattenbarger finishes second in hoop shoot contest

CROSSVILLE — Heath Wattenbarger, who won the 8-9 year old Elks State championship hoop shoot contest in February in Franklin, finished second at the Four State Regional Hoop Shoot contest in Paris, TN, March 8.

Wattenbarger, a second-grader at North Cumberland, converted 21 of 25 free throws in his division, He is the son of Russell and Leslie Wattenbarger.

The contest was composed of winners from Missouri, Kentucky, Arkansas and Tennessee. There were six winners from age groups of 8-9,10-11 and 12-13, in both girls and boys divisions.

Winners in the girls were Averi Kroenke (8-9) of Benton County, MO, with 21 of 25 free throws; Hannah Corcimiglia (10-11) of Popular Bluffs MO, with 22 of 25 free throws; and Hanna Pfeifer (12-13) of Mountain Home, AR, shooing 20 of 25.

Winners in the boys were Micah Naranjo (8-9) of Paducah, KY, shooting 23-25. Kobe Norris (10-11) of Cass County, MO, shot 21-25, and Kyle Taylor (12-13) of Kansas City, MO, shot 24-25.

The winners advance to the National Hoop Shoot contest at the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, MA, in April.
