Crossville men win bronze at National Senior Olympics


CROSSVILLE — The Crossville Senior Sotball team competed in the National Senior Olympics July 24-26 in Cleveland, OH. There were 15 teams, age bracket 65 to 70, from throughout the United States, participating in the softball tournament.

The tournament was structured into three divisions — AAA, AA and A.

In the first of three days of competition, Crossville beat New Bern,  NC, 12-10, but lost to Cleveland, OH, 19-14.

In the second day of competition. Crossville defeated Wilmington, NC 20-14 and Hendersonville, NC 21-8. In the final day, Crossville lost to Wallingford, CT 11-7.

In the third and final day of competition, Crossville lost to Wilmington, DE (20-10) and Hendersonville, NC 18-11 in a rematch from day two.

Crossville rallied in their final game  of competition beating a team from New Jersey 21-18 to capture the Bronze in Division AA.

There have been only two Crossville teams that have qualified for the National Senior Olympics, the current 65+ team and the 70+ team that competed in Houston, TX in 2011.
