Lady Jet softball team ends the week with three wins

CROSSVILLE — After losing to Cookeville last Tuesday, the Cumberland County High School Lady Jet softball team won three games last week, before playing in the Duff Tournament in Cookeville over the weekend.

Last Wednesday afternoon, CCHS defeated District 6AAA foe White County in Sparta 4-2, as they scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to get the win.

They trailed 2-1 going into the top of the seventh.

Whitney Hankins pitched the first four innings, allowing one run on four hits with four Ks and one walk, while Brienna Qualls picked up the victory, allowing one run on two hits with two strikeouts in three innings of work.

Leading hitters for the Lady Jets were Qualls (one hit with two RBIs), Kenzie Woods (one hit, one RBI), Bailey Woods (one hit), Callie Borgialli (two hits, one RBI), Emily Terpening (one hit) and Erin Dille (one hit). Borgialli smacked two doubles, while Qualls belted a triple.

On Thursday night,  CCHS swept a double-header from Rockwood, 12-2 and 4-0, in two five inning games.

In game one, the Lady Jets scored five runs in both the third and fourth innings.

Qualls was the winning pitcher, allowing two runs on three hits with five strikeouts.

Leading hitters were Qualls (one hit, one RBI), Bailey Woods (one hit, two RBIs), and Katie Van Horn (one hit, one RBI). CCHS stole eight bases in the win and received 16 walks.

Jordyn Wison picked up the victory in game two, allowing two hits with two walks and three Ks.

Amber Johnson had the only hit with one RBI, while the Lady Jets received 10 walks and stole four bases.

Schedule: After traveling to Coffee County Monday, the Lady Jets will host Cookeville Thursday and play in the Coffee County Tournament over the weekend.
