CCHS tennis teams lose twice to White County

CROSSVILLE — CCHS traveled to White County on Monday, April 15, for another district tennis match.

The boys team lost another close match 4-5. Lee Presson played the number one singles defeating his opponent 8-3. Daniel Koehl played the number two singles winning 8-0. Landon Crawford played the number three singles winning 8-4. Henry Gilbert played at the number four position losing 8-1. Cody Back played the number five position losing 8-0, and Tyler Boniol rounded out the singles at number six losing 8-3.  

In doubles, the number one team of Presson/Koehl won 8-5, number two doubles Crawford/Gilbert lost 8-3, and number three doubles Back/Boniol lost a close one 8-4. Joshua Whittenberger teamed with Jason Furrer playing an exciting doubles match losing in a close 8-4.

The girls team lost 2-7 in the district match up.  

Nithya Kanagasegar won 8-0 at the number one position. Camie Threet played the number two singles losing 8-2.  Stephanie Kolhepp played the number three losing 8-0. Samantha Godsey played the number four singles losing 8-0. Madison McLaughlin played the number five singles losing 8-1. Morgan Houston played the number six singles losing 8-0.  

In doubles, Kanagasegar/Threet teamed to play the number one doubles winning 8-1, Kolhepp/Godsey played the number two losing 8-3, and McLaughlin/Houston played the three doubles losing 8-2.

"These young teams are working hard to improve at every match.  They have a tremendous attitude and work ethic," stated Coach Terry Jacobs.

The match against Roane County on Friday was canceled due to weather and will be rescheduled at a later date. CCHS hosted district opponent Coffee County for the last regular season time.

Corection: Coach Terry Jacobs gave a correction for the match against Warren County on April 8. It was reported that Lee Presson lost his match to the Warren County player; however, Lee Presson won that match 8-5 even with an ankle injury. Coach Jacobs stated, "Lee is a tremendous player with a lot of heart. I apologize for the error."
