Lady Jets soccer team blanks Jackson County for first win

CROSSVILLE — Last Thursday night, the Cumberland County Lady Jet soccer team opened the second half of the season with a 3-0 victory over Jackson County in Gainesboro.

They went to Gainesboro looking to get their first win after struggly the first of half of the season to 0-5-1 mark and being outscored 19-0 in those six contests.

"The girls came out strong, looking early to establish themselves as the aggressors. And while they proved to be a big challenge for Jackson County, it wasn't until the dying minutes of the first half that they saw that season-long elusive goal finally go in," said Coach Jeremy Conner.

The goal was courtesy of a penalty kick taken by senior Brianna Taylor who took the site straight at the keeper, but the rebound put the Lady Jets ahead 1-0 at halftime.

Taylor scored again in the second half, this time in item pay, as she gathered a pass from teammate Jennifer Hedgecoth and sent the ball toward the goal. The keep was unable to handle it and the score went to 2-0.

After a lot of great passing and wonderful opportunities, the Lady Jets scored one last time, as Brooke Golden was assisted by Jennifer Hedgecoth, whose passes were spot on all game.

"The two seniors linked up well on a run in the box from Jennifer that resulted in an arching cross that Brooke settled coolly and put into the back of the net to put one last point on the board for the Lady Jets, making it a 3-0 victory," said Conner.

The lady Jets host Warren County tonight at 6 in a District 6AAA contest and travel to York Thursday for a 6 p.m. contest.
