Elementary teams prepare for post-season tournament

CROSSVILLE — Several elementary varsity basketball games were played this week, as teams prepare for next week's annual tournament at CCHS.

Jan. 14 results

Stone at Martin

Martin 38, Stone 30: Brandon Kluender led the Eagles with 14 points, while Ryan Graham added 10 points.

Timmy Shultz led Stone with 12 points, while Corban Goad added 10 points.

Crab Orchard at Pleasant Hill

Pleasant Hill 29, Crab Orchard 17: Jessie Blalock tallied nine points to lead the Lady Hornets over the Lady Tigers.

Morgan Pelfrey tallied eight points for the Lady Tigers, who were held scoreless in the first quarter, but scored all its points in the final three quarters and held Pleasant Hill scoreless in the final quarter. Pleasant Hill led 29-5 after three quarters and was outscored 12-0 in the final eight minutes.

Pleasant Hill 44, Crab Orchard 31: The Hornets rallied from an 8-2 first quarter defict to defeat the Tigers 44-31. Pleasant Hill outscored Crab Orchard 42-25 over the final three stanzas to post the victory.

Braden Qualls led Pleasant Hill with 23 points, all over the last three quarters.

Aaron Kindred paced Crab Orchard with 11 markers.

South 35, Ocoee Middle 30: Silas Clark and Hayden Woody each tallied nine points to the Rebels over OMS Monday night.

Colton Gibson led OMS with 10 points.

The Cumberland County elementary varsity basketball tournament will be played Jan. 25, 27 and 29 at Cumberland County High School. The nine quarterfinal games will be played Jan. 25 at 9:15 a.m. The four semi-finals will be played Jan. 27 and the championship games will be contested Jan. 30, according to CCHS athletic director/assistant principal Jon Hall.

Please include first and last names of all players, whether they play or not, as there may be players with the same last name on both teams. Results of games played two weeks ago or older will not be accepted. When faxing copies of the pages from the scorebooks or the provided scoresheets, please be sure all of the names are legible and include first names of all players. Varsity coaches are reminded to submit schedule additions for January, as no games are listed on the composite elementary schedule. Also, when there is a threat of inclement weather and the possiblity of no school the following day, coaches are asked to submit game results before leaving the gym that evening.
