Register now for Golf Capital Classic

Second annual event supports Susan G. Komen of the Upper Cumberland

Registration is now open for the second annual Golf Capital Classic, presented by Crossville Heating and Cooling.

The tournament, set for Aug. 17 at Lake Tansi Golf Course, is a two-man scramble format. Registration includes golf, cart, mulligan, a new pair of Footjoy golf shoes, food and drinks, for $150 per player.

Proceeds benefit the Upper Cumberland Susan G. Komen affiliate and supports grants throughout the 14-county region, including a grant to Cumberland Medical Center which has provided 365 free mammograms to women of the Upper Cumberland since the program began in 2010. The free mammograms offer access to life-saving breast screenings to women who are over 40 and have no insurance. In addition to the free mammograms, the grant supports education effort to let women know how important regular screenings are in the fight to end breast cancer.

"You can see the impact Susan G. Komen has made on the lives of women in our community," said Marty Lewis, tournament chairperson. "Seventy-five cents of every dollar raised stays right here in the Upper Cumberland to support grants that help uninsured or underinsured women get mammograms they might otherwise do without."

The two-person scramble includes a putting contest and hole-in-one prizes. The tournament will have a 1 p.m. shotgun start, with golfers asked to arrive early to enjoy lunch.

The night before, golfers and guests will enjoy a kick-off event at the Thunderbird Recreation Center. There will be a team auction and silent auction that includes a variety of autographed memorabilia and artwork from local and regional artists. This event begins at 6 p.m.

Susan G. Komen for the Cure is dedicated to ending breast cancer and is the largest non-government funder of breast cancer research. The organization has been a part of major advancements in diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer for the past 25 years.

Contact Lewis at (931) 335-0501 or (931) 200-0553, or email martylewis60@yahoo.com to register your team. The field is limited, so register early to reserve your place.

Most golfers would like to hit the ball further off the tee with the driver.  Distance may not be as important as accuracy off the tee, but it is very valuable. Longer, straighter drives make the game easier.
