SMHS, Warren County split regular season finales

CROSSVILLE — The Stone Memorial basketball teams closed out the regular season Monday night with make-up games at District 6AAA foe Warren County. The Panthers defeated the Pioneers 68-37, while the Lady Panthers lost 60-55 in overtime.

SMHS 68, Warren County 37: The Panthers clinched second place in the district with the victory over the Pioneers and earned an automatic berth into the Region 3AAA Tournament next week at Cookeville. No scoring information was available.

Warren County 60, SMHS 55: Lacey Melton's basket tied the game at 49-49 at the end of regulation, rallying the Lady Panthers from a 14-point second-half deficit; however, the Lady Pioneers outscored SMHS 11-6 in the overtime to take the victory.

Leading the way for the Lady Panthers were Tiffany Cokkinias (six points, four rebounds, four assists, four steals), Jordan Thompson (five rebounds, one steal), Kirsten Potter (23 points, 10 rebounds, three steals), Melton (14 points, three assists, three steals), Abby Griffin (two points, one rebound, one assist, one steal), Bailey Rutledge (three points, three rebounds, two assists), Courtney White (six points, five rebounds, two assists, two steals) and Sidney Early (one point, two rebounds, two assists).

The loss to Warren County dropped the Lady Panthers into sixth place in the district. The Lady Panthers district tournament game with Rhea County Thursday night was postponed due to the snow storm. Both Rhea and Cumberland County schools were dismissed due to the snow.

    The 16th annual Golf Capital of Tennessee Women’s Open Championship is set for July 31-Aug. 2 at Stonehenge Golf Club in Crossville. This season marks the 11th anniversary for the event to be hosted in Crossville and the sixth consecutive year that the championship will be at Stonehenge, accoring to the Tennessee Golf Association.
