Jason Allen is new SMHS tennis coach

CROSSVILLE — Stone Memorial High School has named Jason Allen as the new tennis coach, replacing long-time coach Ray Hawn, who will remain on the SMHS staff as a teacher, according to SMHS assistant principal/athletic director Lance Kennedy.

Allen is both a United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) and Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) certified tennis professional. For the past three, years he was the head men’s and women’s varsity tennis coach at Page High School in Greensboro, NC. During that time he also worked as one of the head tennis professional for the Greensboro Tennis Foundation. During his tenure at Page, he posted a record of 120-15 record and won three conference championships.

In 2011 he was named the USPTA Southern High School Coach of the year and was named the Metro 4A Tennis Coach of the year in 2010 and 2013.

Before coaching at the high school level, Allen was the Director of Junior and Adult Tennis at Greensboro Country Club for two years. Prior to that, he was the executive director of the Anguilla Tennis Academy from 2005-2009.

During his time in Anguilla, he was the Anguillian National Champion as well as the National Coach of Anguilla.

He was also employed at Magnolia Point Golf and Country Club in Green Cove Springs, FL as the head tennis professional from 1995-2000.

In terms of his playing experience, he played number one singles and doubles for Gardner-Webb University from 1996-1999 in Boiling Springs, NC.

In 2010 he was crowned NC USTA League State Champion, Southern Sectional Champion and went on to represent the south at the USTA League National Championships in Tuscon, AZ. In the summer of 2012, he won the USTA NC Singles League State Championship as well. In the past year, he has won 15 singles and doubles titles in USTA tournament play.

At Page, Allen saw two state singles champions crowned with Austin Ansari, currently playing at Clemson, and Hannah Templeton, a junior at Page High School. He also coached Madeline Hamilton who currently plays number one for Yale and Landon Kinsey, a top player for the Air Force Academy.

Although Allen did not coach him, John Isner, the number one ranked American tennis player, won a state championship at Page in 2001. Page's tennis program is one of the most successful teams in the history of North Carolina.  

Coach Allen has dedicated his life to coaching and teaching.

He said, “I am extremely excited in regards to the opportunity to work at Stone Memorial High School. The faculty and administration have welcomed me with open arms and it is my desire to be a positive asset to the school both in the classroom and on the court.”

Allen will teach spanish this fall at SMHS.
