SMHS sweeps Loudon

CROSSVILLE — The Stone Memorial basketball teams opened the District 4AA portion of their schedule Friday night by sweeping Loudon.

The Lady Panthers defeated the Lady Redskins 73-64, while the Panthers won 68-60.

SMHS 73, Loudon 64: Coach John Walker's squad trailed 17-13 after one quarter, but outscored Loudon 21-16 in the second quarter to take a 34-33 lead at halftime. The Panthers stretched the lead to 54-44 after the quarter; however, Loudon outscored SMHS 20-19 in the fourth quarter for the final margin.

The statistical leaders for the Lady Panthers were Tiffany Cokkinias (three rebounds, three assists, four steals), Jordan Thompson (five points, two rebounds), Emily Bryant (five points, two rebounds, two assists), Jacki Livesay (14 points, one assist), Kirsten Potter (10 points, four rebounds, one assist, two steals), Faith Van Ruden (14 points, three rebounds, seven assists, four steals), Abby Griffin (three points, three rebounds, two steals), Courtney White (12 points, two rebounds, two assists, six steals), Sidney Early (six points, two rebounds, one assist) and Mikayla Kington (four points, three rebounds).

SMHS 68, Loudon 60: Coach Neil Capp's Panthers notched their first District 4AA victory with a 68-60 victory over the Loudon Redskins Friday night. The Panthers led 21-14 after one quarter and stretched the lead to 41-21 at the break, behind Brock Rowan's 11 points. Tyler Yoder added eight markers.

Loudon outscored SMHS 39-27 in the second half to make the final margin 68-60.

Rowan led the Panthers with 18 points, followed by Gage Spence (12 points), Yoder (11 points), Brandon Thomas (five points), Mitch Ball (two points), Justin Simmons (nine points), Luke Matthews (seven points) and Collin Russell (four points). Parker Hill also played.

    The Cookeville Cavaliers scored seven runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to claim a 7-0 District 6AAA victory over the CCHS Jets Monday night in Cookeville.

    The SMHS Lady Panthers had another stellar day while the Panthers hammered out a solid day in Knoxville in the Tennessee Relays over the weekend.. The Lady Panthers finished ninth out of the 57 scheduled teams to compete, while the boys took 32nd out of the 57.
