CCHS track team receives accolades Tuesday

CROSSVILLE — Less than 24 hours before competing in the Class AAA track meet in Murfreesboro, the CCHS track and field teams received their letters and special awards from Coach Ted McCaslin Tuesday evening at Lake Tansi.

"They have worked hard. Not everyone went to all of the meets. I try to take them to best possible meets," said McCaslin, who loses only two people who were in attendance that evening. "I will continue going to good meets."

He thanked Barry Mathis for his support of the team, including the donation of money for the purchase of new Columbia blue uniforms for the team.

"This is the smallest team I've ever had in 20 years coaching track," McCaslin added.

He presented several of the players certificates for setting school and/or class records.

Those receiving school records were Taonna Miller (400 meters), Jennifer Hedgecoth (800 meters), Kassidy Sommer (1600 meters) and the 4x800 relay team (Marissa Vincent, Anna Holt Shaw, Brianna Taylor and Jennifer Hedgecoth).

Class records set were Miller (200 meters, 400 meters and long jump, freshmen), Sommer (1600 and 3200 meters, sophomore), Hedgecoth (400 meters and 800 meers, junior), Seth Randall (300 intermediate hurdles) and Kobe Cox (discus).

Participation awards went to Christy Carter, Taylor Hammons, Madeline Toy, Tyler Hancock, P.J. Marquez, Marshall Nye, Dylan Oakes, Dillon Reinking and Ryan Tabor.

On Wednesday, Miller finished 16th in the 400-meter dash preliminary heat in 1:04.26, while Sommer finished 14th in the 3200 meter run in 12:11.63 at MTSU.

The 4x800 relay team competed Thursday at MTSU.

Next letters, bars and pins were presented. To earn a letter, the student/athletes had to earn 10 to 15 points for the team in their meets.

Earning letters were Jennifer Hedgecoth, Taonna Miller, Anna Holt Shaw, Kassidy Sommer, Brianna Taylor, Sharon Ulloa, Marissa Vincent, Rebecca Carter, Ben Church, Kobe Cox, Seth Hardman, Zakk King, Kyle Lockwood, Bradley Mathis, A.J. Page, Nathan Phillips, Seth Randall and Daniel Richards.

The Most Improved Runners were Anna Holt Shaw and Seth Randall.

Newcomer of the Year awards went to Kobe Cox and Taonna Miller, while Bradley Mathis, Kassidy Sommer and Jennifer Hedgecoth were the Most Valuable Runners.

Receiving All Sub-section honors were Kobe Cox, Seth Hardman, Zakk King, Kyle Lockwood, Bradley Mathis, Seth Randall and Daniel Richards, while All-Section honors went to Seth Hardman, Zakk King, Kyle Lockwood, Seth Randall and Daniel Richards.

Lady Jets earning All Sub-Section honors were Jennifer Hedgecoth, Taonna Miller, Anna Holt Shaw, Kassidy Sommer, Brianna Taylor and Marissa Vincent, while Jennifer Hedgecoth, Taonna Miller, Anna Holt Shaw, Kassidy Sommer, Brianna Taylor and Marissa Vincent were All-Section picks.

He also recognized assistant coaches Stuart Bowen and Charlotte Wilson.
