Panther tennis teams sweep Loudon Tuesday

CROSSVILLE — The Stone Memorial tennis teams swept a pair of district matches at Loudon Tuesday, as the Lady Panthers won 8-1 and the Panthers were victorious 5-1.

Ali Harris defeated Ashlee Wright 8-3 in No. 1 singles and remains undefeated in all matches this season. Peyton Franklin posted an 8-4 victory over Kayla Brown at No. 2 singles. 

Tori Harris won her No. 3 singles match 8-1 against Logan Veal in commanding fashion. Elise Myslinski defeated her No. 4 singles opponent Morgan Cox 8-3.  Savannah Brown won 8-6 over Hannah Reese in an evenly matched No. 5 singles contest. Abbie Wightman posted another varsity win over Kaila Tullock 8-4 at No. 6 singles.

Harris and Harris defeated Wright and Brown 8-2 at No. 1 doubles, while Franklin and Myslinski went on to post an easy 8-0 win over Veal and Kennedy in No. 2 doubles. Anthony and Wightman lost at No. 3 to Wombles and Lawhorn by a match score of 6-8. 

The SMHS Lady Panthers are now 5-1 in district play and 5-2 overall.

Mark Brown dropped a 4-8 loss at No. 1 singles to Dylan Shanks. Tyler Yoder won his No. 2 singles match over Stephen Davis 8-6. Trent Campbell and Steven Tung were idle for lack of opponents.

Brown and Yoder combined their efforts to defeat Shanks and Davis 8-6 to wrap up the No. 1 doubles win. Yoder and Parker Hill teamed up for a resounding 8-1 victory over their district opponents Kirkland and Morlock at No. 2 doubles. 

The Redskins boys team forfeited No. 3 and No. 4 singles and No. 2 doubles for lack of players.

The Panthers boys are 5-1 in districts with a previous win of 7-2 over the Harriman Blue Devils and 5-2 overall. 

The Panthers and Lady Panthers will host the Kingston Yellowjackets Monday, April 22, for another district match on the SMHS courts at 3:30 p.m.

    The SMHS Lady Panthers had another stellar day while the Panthers hammered out a solid day in Knoxville in the Tennessee Relays over the weekend.. The Lady Panthers finished ninth out of the 57 scheduled teams to compete, while the boys took 32nd out of the 57.

    The Cumberland County High School Jet baseball team completed last week with a 1-2 record to go to 14-8 on the season, after a 4-3 loss at Dekalb County last Thursday, an 11-7 setback to Walker Valley and an 8-3 win at Livingston Saturday.
