Stone cross country takes part in state meet

CROSSVILLE — The Stone Memorial High School cross country teams competed in the Class A/AA meet Saturday at Percy Warner Park in Nashville.

The Lady Panthers finished fourth out of 23 teams with 156 points behind CAK (96), Macon County (100) and Obion County (124), while the Panthers 18th with 417 points, behind (93) and 16 other schools.

There were 189 boys and 183 girls in the annual meet.

Caroline Pribanich led the Lady Panthers in 22:15.46, followed by Rachel Hutson (23:14.61), Emily Swafford (23:36.25), Kerigan Smith (23:55.130, Tiffany Cokkinias (24:16.64), Faith VanRuden (27:10.95) and Ali Livesday (29:22.98).

Mario Martinez led the Panthers in 19:58.56, followed by Bo Hamilton (20:11.00), Ismael Matius (20:19.68), Sam Hagan (20:32.57), John Mathis (20:36,34), Anthony Spencer (21:17.40) and Boomer Freeman (22:56.87).

•The Cumberland County High School Jet cross country team finished 24th in the Class AAA meet Saturday at Percy Warner Park in Nashville. CCHS finished with 603 points, behind Brentwood (52) and Daniel Boone (61).

Ryan Bedgood finished in 18:47.56 to lead the Jets, followed by Bradley Mathis (18:50.97), A. J. Page (19:45.66), Kevin Buffkin (19:47.47), Kyle Lockwood (20:08.22), Landon Crawford (22:12.32) and Todd Wisor (22:12.51).

    The Cookeville Cavaliers scored seven runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to claim a 7-0 District 6AAA victory over the CCHS Jets Monday night in Cookeville.

    On a wet Monday afternoon, the Stone Memorial baseball team  hosted Rhea County in a District 6AAA match-up to claim a 10-0 win in the first game of the home-and-home series.

    The SMHS Lady Panthers had another stellar day while the Panthers hammered out a solid day in Knoxville in the Tennessee Relays over the weekend.. The Lady Panthers finished ninth out of the 57 scheduled teams to compete, while the boys took 32nd out of the 57.
