CCHS cheerleaders show Jet Pride at cheer camp

CROSSVILLE — The CCHS cheer squad enjoyed a week packed full of fun and excitement at UCA Cheer Camp at Tennessee Technological University June 3-6.

The CCHS cheer squad joined the UCA Camp staff in celebrating 40 years of spirit by participating in the “Homecoming 2014 Celebration."

The squad participated in many activities to help them “Bring Home the Spirit” and lead strong in their school and community.
"The squad was excited to break out their homecoming spirit with crowns, sashes, spirit sticks and run through signs. Their outgoing school spirit was rewarded by receiving the famous 'UCA Spirit Banana.' Hard work and dedication paid off, as the CCHS squads brought home numerous awards and honors," said Coach Melissa Kerley.
Four CCHS cheerleaders were named to the All American UCA Cheer Squad — Haley Mitchell, Hannah Hitch, Jade Iles and Kierstin Haynes. These four young ladies have the opportunity to enjoy a week in London, England, and participate in the London New Year’s Parade.
The Jets took home first place in Game Day Cheer, second place Overall Game Day, second place Extreme Routine, Fight Song Superior, Home Pom Superior, Overall Superior Game Day Ready, Traditions Award — two years in a row, UCA Famous Spirit Banana — second day of camp and Spirit Sticks nightly.
UCA continued this summer with their “Pin it Forward” program.  UCA created this program to promote all of the values developed through cheerleading like leadership, spirit, commitment, kindness and motivation.

As part of "Pin it Forward," each UCA instructor passed out a card with two pins to cheerleaders who they think possess these skills on day one.

On day two, those cheerleaders passed their extra pin onto another cheerleader from a different school possessing those traits. At the end of the camp, all of the cheerleaders who received a pin were recognized.
From the CCHS squad, the following cheerleaders received pins — Taonna Miller, Kassie Looschen and Haley Plenert.
For the second year in a row the Jets also took home the “Traditions” award, voted on by the entire UCA and Varsity Brands staff for the team showing outstanding leadership skills, school pride and spirit.

“We are honored to be recognized for this. We take great pride in representing our school at camp and showing what it means to be a Jet,” Kerley said.
“We set high goals for this camp and achieved all of them. We are very proud of these kids” Kerley said. "The Jets’ cheer team looks forward to a year of supporting their Jets and Lady Jets."
