Elementary players show their skills at Meet the Jets

CROSSVILLE — Several competitions were held during the "Meet the Jets" activities Nov. 2 at Cumberland County High School.

Winners of the girl's individual competitions were

three-point competition — Gracee Dishman, from South Cumberland Elementary and a member of the Lady Rebel Basketball Team, made 16  Three-point baskets in 1 minute.

Free-Throw Competition — Alex Eldridge, from South Cumberland Elementary and a member of the Lady Rebel basketball team, made four out of five free-throws to win the competition.

Speed Dribble - 24 Second Drill — Kiara Wilson, from South Cumberland Elementary and a member of the Lady Rebel basketball team, finished first in the 24 second speed dribble competition.

Boy's Individual Competitions:

Three-point Competition — Silas Clark, from South Cumberland Elementary and a member of Rebel basketball team made 10 three-point baskets in one minute.

Free-Throw Competition — Ben Patton, from Martin Elementary and a member of the Eagle basketball team, made five out of five free-throws to win the competition.

Speed Dribble - 24 Second Drill — Jacob Kerley, from South Cumberland Elementary and a member of the Rebel basketball team, finished first in the 24-second speed dribble competition  

The CCHS Basketball Booster Club donated $25 per winner to each schools athletic fund.  South Cumberland Elementary's athletics received a donation of $125 and Martin Elementary's athletics received a donation of $25.

    The TAD Center will host a free Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit & Run competition sponsored by Scotts, for area youth May 3 at 9 a.m. at Garrison Park.

    The CCHS Jet baseball went 1-2 over spring break to improve to 17-10 on the season, after losing to Greeneville 3-2 in eight innings last Thursday, beating Cocke County 7-1 last Friday and losing 10-4 to Knox Carter last Saturday.

    The University of Tennessee's beleaguered head basketball coach, Cuonzo Martin is gone. Martin resigned Tuesday to become the head coach at the University of California, which won the 2010 PAC-10 championship under retiring coach Mike Montgomery.
