The Cumberland County Jet baseball team returned to District 6AAA play Monday night at Coffee County and dropped a 7-2 decision to fall to 2-3 in the district and 6-9-1 overall.
The Jets took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on singles by Matt Ledbetter, Tayler Houston and Aaron Jones, a fielder's choice and an error.
After Jones' two run-single in the top of the first, Red Raider hurler Peyton Meeker retired the next seven Jets, before designated hitter Reed Shaw ripped a leadoff single in the top of the fourth inning.
Meeker then retired 10 more Jets in a row, before Ethan Cunningham led off the top of the seventh with a single.
Coffee County scored an unearned run in the bottom of the first inning off Aaron Jones to slice the lead to 2-1. Tyler Cavender singled home the run.
Jones retired the first two Red Raiders in the bottom of the third, but a walk five straight singles by Stanton Keel, J.R. Gilmer, Hunter Smithson, Trace Friedlin and Wyatt Day plated four runs to give the hosts a 5-2 advantage.
Jones threw one pitch in the bottom of the fourth and gave way to Ledbetter who walked Kyle Douglas, who later scored on a RBI single by Meeker for a 6-1 lead. Meeker went to second on a passed ball and scored on Keel's RBI single. Gilmer grounded into a Ryan Burgess to Houston to Cameron O'Rourke, inning ending double play.
Ledbetter allowed a walk in the bottom of the fifth and pitched to one hitter in the sixth. Jacob Hayes recorded the last two in the sixth.
Ledbetter, Houston, Shaw, Jones and Cunningham each had one hit for the Jets, while Jones, Ledbetter and Hayes gave up seven runs on eight hits with four walks.
Schedule: CCHS hosted Coffee County Tuesday night for the final game of the home-and-home series and final time during the regular season, as Coffee County is leaving District 6AAA beginning the next school year.
The Jets traveled to Walker Valley this afternoon in a make-up game and will host the Mustangs Thursday, before playing two games in Oak Ridge Saturday.
