CCHS tennis teams lose district opener at White County

CROSSVILLE — The CCHS tennis teams opened the season at White County March 19 to play their first district match of the season.The boys lost in a close one 5-4 and the girls 7-2. 

Lee Presson played number one singles, winning 6-0, 6-2.  

Daniel Koehl played number two singles, winning 9-7.  

Landon Crawford played number three spot, winning 8-4.  

Henry Gilbert played number four, losing in a close one 8-6.  

The singles were finished by Cody Back playing number five and Joshua Whittenberger at number six, with both losing 8-0.  

In boys doubles,Presson-Koehl  were number one, winning 8-0, Crawford-Back lost 8-2 at number two, and Gilbert and Tyler Bolin at number three lost 8-1. Stephen Williams teamed with Jason Furrer to play a junior varsity match losing 6-1.

The Lady Jets were headed by Nithya Kanagasegar at #1 winning 8-1.  

Stephanie Kolhepp played number two. Samantha Godsey played number three and Morgan Houston played the number four singles, with the girls losing 8-0, but they played many points to deuce.  

Madison McLaughlin played number five and lost a close match at 8-6. Camie Threet played the number six singles losing 8-4.  

Kanagasegar/Threet teames up for number one doubles and won 8-1. Kolhepp/Godsey played number two doubles, losing 8-0, and Houston-McLaughlin teamed up for number three doubles, losing 8-1.

"Many of the players are new to the game and they will improve as the season progresses," said Coach Terry Jacobs, whose team returns to the court April 8 at Warren County at 1 p.m.

The match against Stone Memorial March 25 was cancelled due to snow and will be made up later. The district match against Cookeville on March 26 was also cancelled due to snow and is rescheduled for April 12.
