Elementary hoops postponed by threat of inclement weather

CROSSVILLE — With school dismissed Thursday due to the forecast of inclement weather, the following basketball games were postponed — Stone at Pleasant Hill, Crab Orchard at Brown and Homestead at Martin. North had the scheduled open date. No make-up date was announced, but these games have to be made up, as they affect the seeding for the county varsity tournament, which begins Jan. 31. The tentative make-up date shown on the elementary calendar is Jan. 28.

North at Marin

Martin 32, North 27: Kevin Flores tallied 11 points to lead the Eagles over the Patriots Monday night.

Ben Tabor led North with 11 points.

No information was received from the other Monday night games — Brown at Stone, North at Martin (girls) and Pleasant  Hill at Homestead (girls).

Schedule

Jan. 22: Martin at Stone, Pleasant Hill at Crab Orchard and Brown at North. Homestead has the open date.

Jan. 24: Crab Orchard at Martin, Pleasant Hill at North and Homestead at Brown. Stone has the open date.

Jan. 31, Feb 1-2, 4-5, 7, 9: These are the tentative dates for the elementary varsity tournament at both CCHS and SMHS.

(Elementary coaches are reminded to submit results on a timely basis. Results more than two weeks old will not be accepted. Coaches are asked to please include first and last names of all players who play, as there are players with the same last name on teams and who have siblings also on those teams.)

    The Cookeville Cavaliers scored seven runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to claim a 7-0 District 6AAA victory over the CCHS Jets Monday night in Cookeville.

    On a wet Monday afternoon, the Stone Memorial baseball team  hosted Rhea County in a District 6AAA match-up to claim a 10-0 win in the first game of the home-and-home series.

    The SMHS Lady Panthers had another stellar day while the Panthers hammered out a solid day in Knoxville in the Tennessee Relays over the weekend.. The Lady Panthers finished ninth out of the 57 scheduled teams to compete, while the boys took 32nd out of the 57.

    The Stone Memorial tennis teams lost their District 6AAA matches to Rhea County Monday afternoon. The boys lost 9-0, while the girls were beaten 7-2.

    The Cumberland County High School Jet baseball team completed last week with a 1-2 record to go to 14-8 on the season, after a 4-3 loss at Dekalb County last Thursday, an 11-7 setback to Walker Valley and an 8-3 win at Livingston Saturday.
