CCHS hosts Cookeville Friday

CROSSVILLE — The Cumberland County High School basketball teams will carry momentum from their after Christmas adventures to Middle Tennessee into their District 6AAA home opener Friday against Cookeville. The Cavaliers are 16-3, and the Lady Cavaliers are 10-7 after holiday tournament action.

Coach Radhika Miller's Lady Jets finished the Stewart County Christmas Tournament with a 2-1 record, including a 52-46 overtime loss to South Fulton last Friday and a 51-36 victory over Clarksville last Saturday afternoon, to improve to 5-11 on the season.

Coach Will Foster's Jets finished second in the Macon County Nera White Tournament after a 58-49 victory over Lancaster Christian last Friday night and a 67-32 loss to Obion County in the championship game last Saturday to improve their record to 9-9.

CCHS 51, Clarksville 36: In the Lady Jets' win over Clarksville Saturday, CCHS led 22-21 at the break and 33-32 after three quarters, but used an 18-4 fourth quarter to take the victory.

Leading the way for the Lady Jets were Sloane VanWinkle (16 points), Gina Dick (10 points), Rebekah Teeple (10 points), Alli Hyder (five points), Makenzie Iles (five points) and Kassidy Sommer (five points). Sloane VanWinkle had three three-pointers.

South Fulton 52, CCHS 46: The Lady Jets led 26-14 at the break, but South Fulton outscored CCHS 26-14 in the second half tie the games at 40-40 at the end of regulation. The Red Devils outscored CCHS 12-6 in the extra period for the win.

Leading the way for the Lady Jets were Makenzie Iles with 12 points, including three treys, followed by Sloane VanWinkle (seven points with one trey), Rebekah Teeple (eight points), Gina Dick (two points), Kassidy Sommer (five points), Alli Hyder (eight points with one trey), Courtney Smith (two points) and Kelzie Eldridge (two points).

Macon County Nera White Tournament

CCHS 58, Lancaster Christian 49: The Jets trailed 20-14 after one quarter, but outscored Lancaster Christian in the second quarter 18-8 for a 32-28 lead at the break.

A 26-21 second half gave the Jets the victory.

Leading scorers for the Jets were Tayler Houston (15), J.J. Miller (12), Logan Parsons (12 points), Diego Poore (eight points), Cameron O'Rourke (six points), Cade Smith (three points) and Ty Tabor (two points).

Houston and Miller had two three-pointers each, while Parsons and Smith had one apiece.

Obion County 67, CCHS 32: No details were available.

Tayler Houston and Logan Parsons were named to the All-Tournament team.
