Panther golfers finish 12th in Maxwell Invitational

CROSSVILLE — The Stone Memorial boys golf team defeated Rockwood Monday and finished 12th in the Keith Maxwell Invitational Tuesday at McMinnville Country Club, while the Lady Panthers lost to Rockwood Monday.

The boys beat Rockwood 176-188 at Rockwood Country Club in a nine-hole match behind Wyatt Smith and Chase Allred, who both shot 42. Dustin Lee and Seth Hannah each shot a 48.

The SMHS girls lost 106-111, as Lady Panther Tori Harris led all scorers with a 50. Teammate Paige Cox had a 61.

The Panthers shot a 361 at the Maxwell Invitational to finish 12th behind former District 6AAA member Coffee County (305).

Rounding out the team scores were Warren County (312), Maryville (314), Cookeville (316), Siegel (318), Blackman (322), CCHS (331), Marshall County (338), Tullahoma (339), White County (340), DeKalb County (346), SMHS (361) and Rhea County (364). Cookeville's second team finished with a 341.

SMHS scorers were Dustin Lee (85), Smith (91), McCoy (92), Parker Hill (93) and Allred (101).

Harris shot a season low 99 for the Lady Panthers.

"The tournament was a good barometer for where we are as a team and individuals. It allowed the players exposure to a District style tournament, as well as showing them what scores each member will need if they hope to compete for a spot in the regional tournament," said Coach Nathan Brown.

There are a few changes to the schedule for the remainder of the season. Thursday's match at Harriman was cancelled. SMHS will play CCHS and White County at Stonehenge  Sept. 9 and go to River Watch Sept. 10 to face White County. They finish the season at Lakeside against Kingston Sept. 11.

"We hope to finish the season on a strong note as we prepare for the district tournament," concluded Brown.
