CCHS golfers beat SMHS, White County Aug. 29

CROSSVILLE — The Cumberland County and SMHS golf teams competed in a three-way match with White County at River Watch in DeKalb County Thursday in preparation for the District 6AAA and Region 3AAA tournaments to be held there in mid-September.

Cumberland County defeated White County 328-346 and SMHS 328-369.

Jet senior Logan Stewart fired a season low 73, followed by Jordan Graham (82), D.J. Shelton (85), Chandler Shelton (88) and Andrew Brown (96).

Leading scorers for SMHS were Wyatt Smith (91), Parker Hill (91), Stone McCoy (92), Dustin Lee (95) and Chase Allred (97).

The best four scores count in the team totals.

"It was good opportunity to see district competition and play the course we will play at districts. This was the first time seeing this course for all of the boys, so we expect all of them to shoot at least 3-5 strokes better now that they know the lay out," SMHS coach Nathan Brown.

Lady Panther Tori Harris shot 115 on an extremely dry and difficult course, but was able to gain some insight and knowledge about course she had never seen before, according to Brown.

Megan Burgess shot a 104 for the Lady Jets.

Both teams are playing in the Keith Maxwell Invitational today in McMinnville. CCHS will host White County Sept. 9 at Stonehenge at 1 p.m. and Cookeville at Bear Trace Sept. 12 at 1:15 p.m. in their final regular season district matches.

SMHS will host Harriman at 3:30 p.m. Sept. 5 at Bear Trace and will travel to Sparta Country Club Sept. 10 to face White County in their final district tune-up before tournament time.
