Last Thursday night, the Lady Jets volleyball team traveled to Cookeville to take on the Lady Cavaliers in the District 6AAA season opener and dropped both the junior varsity and varsity contests.
In the first action of the night, the Lady Jets junior varsity got off to a slow start in the first set, losing 25- before regrouping for the second set.
In the second set, Maddie Bernabei led the team with four kills. Emalee Breeding added two kill shots. The Lady Jets battled point for point.
In the end, they came up short 25-17.
In the second match up of the night, the varsity started off strong. Led by Christine Jones, Rebekah Teeple, Kansas Stamper and back row specialist Tessa Dixon, the Lady Jets jumped out to a 23-17 lead, before falling 25-23. Victoria Lee had four kills and six blocks. Stamper and Teeple had four and seven kills, respectively.
In sets two and three, the Lady Jets battled, but came up short with scores of 25-15, 25-15.
The Lady Jets traveled to Knoxville Christian Monday night and will host district foe White County for their first home game of the season tonight.
