CROSSVILLE — The Stone Memorial Lady Panther softball team won a 13-6 slugfest  over the CCHS Lady Jets in a non-district contest last Thursday evening at Jet Park.

Rachel Matthews was the winning pitcher, allowing six runs on nine hits with six strikeouts.

Matthews had plenty of support, as Christy Hancock slammed four hits with three runs scored and two RBIs and Sydney Brown poked three hits with three runs scored and one RBI. Matthews, Jerrica Hale, Kaitlyn Reagan and Ashley Wilson each smacked two hits, while Casey Swafford, Sydney Noland and Savannah Chalfant each smashed one hit.

Whitney Hankins was the losing pitcher, allowing five earned runs on 14 hits with two strikeouts and two walks. Bri Qualls and Tori Kerley each had two hits, while Lydia Harris, Kenzie Woods, Hankins and Bailey Woods each poked one hit.

The Lady Panthers sent nine hitters to the plate in the first inning to score four runs on singles by Brown and Hale, a double by Noland, two walks and an error, and then added four more runs in the top of second for an 8-0 advantage on singles by Wilson and Hancock, a two-run homer by Swafford, a walk, an error and a stolen base.

A two-run third inning made it 10-0 on consecutive singles by Wilson, Brown and Hancock, a fielder's choice and a passed ball, and stretched the advantage to 12-0 in the top of the fourth on singles by Hale, Chalfant and Brown, an error and a stolen base.

Matthews retired the first nine Lady Jets, before hitting Bailey Woods to open the bottom of the fourth, allowing CCHS to score four runs to slice the deficit to 12-4 on a single by Qualls, a double by Kerley, two errors, a fielder's choice and two stolen bases.

Hankins allowed singles by Hancock and Reagan in the fifth inning, allowing her Lady Jet teammates to score twice in the bottom of the fifth on a single by Qualls, doubles by Kerley and Hankins and a sacrifice to make the score 12-6.

Hancock led off the seventh with a homer to make the final score 13-6.

No information was available on Friday's Clarkrange at CCHS game. CCHS district home game with Warren County Monday and Tuesday's game at SMHS were in jeopardy because of the snow and cold weather.

SMHS played in the Gordonsville Tournament at Cane Creek over the weekend, but no information was received at presstime Monday. The Lady Panthers were scheduled to play at Cookeville Monday and host CCHS Tuesday, but those games were in question due to the snow and cold. SMHS travels to Harriman Thursday.
