Panthers lose catfight to Meigs County Tigers

Stone Memorial was the scene of a cat fight on the baseball diamond as the home team hosted the Meigs County Tigers, with the Tigers clawing their way to an 8-3 win.

Starting pitcher Gabriel Caballero and relievers Clay Wilson and Jason Moldenhauer hurled for the Panthers in the game they led for five innings.

With one starter out of the lineup due to injury, and another participating in another athletic engagement, the already inconsistent lineup and positions were further tested.

Right fielder Sawyer Casey and catcher Nathan Greene were the only starters who have remained in their customary positions of late with all players participating in an ever-changing batting order.  Base running missteps for the home team left runners stranded and ended offensive play, turning the momentum towards the visitors.

Meigs County coaches and players were able to take advantage of the un-tested infield to create runs on hits, bunts, walks and errors to leave the Plateau with an 8-3 win.

Caballero led the home offense with two hits. Teammates Casey, Jason Moldenhauer, Greene, John Martin and Wayne Burns contributed singles.

Panther faithful have high hopes that their team can get back on track since Monday and Tuesday nights find the Panthers facing the Kingston Yellow Jackets in District 4AA regular season play for the last time.

Correction: In a correction of a previous article, Martin doubled in the home CAK game which was reported as a base on balls.
