Panthers end season against Bobcats

CROSSVILLE — The Stone Memorial Panther football team ended the season Saturday afternoon in the first Careactor Star Community Service Game at Grace Christian Academy in Knoxville; however, the team lost 47-30 to the Oliver Springs Bobcats in the TSSAA-approved 11th game.

The Bobcats capped a 35-yard drive on a three-pass from Sims to Michael Nelson for a 6-0 lead with 4:15 left in the first quarter. The PAT was no good.

Coach Mark Wattenbarger's squad sliced the lead to 6-3 on a 28-yard field goal by Patrick Robinson.

Shawn Chlidress scored on a one-yard run to cap a 19-yard drive, set up by a Panther fumble, to make the score 12-3 with 6:17 left in the half. The PAT was no good.

Eddie Stephenson raced 82 yards to cap an 87-yard drive for a 19-3 lead with 3:10 remaining in the half.

After the teams exchanged fumble recoveries, the Panthers took over at their 18. Brady Wattenbarger  passed 18 yards to Caleb Johnson to set up a one-yard TD run by Brian Frye. Robinson's PAT made it 19-10 with 1:42 left in the half.

Oliver Springs extended the lead to 26-10 with 11 seconds in the half on a two-yard  pass from Brandon Buck to Michael Nelson to gap a 61-yard drive. The PAT was good.

Wattenbarger passed seven yards to Frye with 9:58 left in the third quarter to cap a 60-yard drive, but the two-point conversion was no good. The score remained 26-16.

After an exchange of punts, the Bobcats drove 60 yards to take a 32-16 lead with 2:50 left in the third quarter to score on Stephenson's five-yard run.

A pass interception gave the Bobcats the ball at the Bobcat 43-yard line. Buck passed two yards to Nelson for a 38-16 lead with 11:47 left in the game. The PAT made it 39-16.

Wattenbarger's one-yard run with 6:12 left in the game sliced the lead to 39-22, but the two-point conversion was no good.

Oliver Springs came back with an 80-yard drive to score on an 80-yard run by Shawn Childress with 5:41 left in the game. The two-point conversion made it 47-22.

Wattenbarger passed to Thomas Janow nine yards to slice the lead to 47-28 with 4:21 left in the game. The two-point conversion made it 47-30.

The teams would run out the clock, with the Bobcats taking the win. The Panthers finished the season 2-9.
